Ocean Eyes - Album Review
By Aggie

This album is captivating from the first song to the last. Each individual song is catchy and edgy. Owl city was founded by Adam young a 23-year-old who first began demonstrating his talent on MySpace in 2007 and he was amongst thousands of unknown acts but that all changed after 50 million hits and two-and-a- half years and one EP, two albums Owl city released “fireflies” which was a huge success and hit no. 1 on the US Billboard charts.

The hugely proclaimed album by Owl city Ocean eyes was amazing to listen to. Owl City's live band consists of: Breanne Duren (background vocals/keyboards), Matthew Decker (drums), Laura Musten (violin), and Hannah Schroeder (cello). The use of beautiful lyrics over electro beats makes it a fantastic hit and popular with mainstream listeners and not just the techno pop culture.

The band is an example of relevant new age music that is sure to be a hit this year after the growing popularity in rave and club music over the last year. The music on the album fits well into my iPod collection and after listening to it through once or twice I already couldn’t get the lyrics out of my head.

The mix of romantic meaningful lyrics with the soft synthesising and strong beats make Owl City’s music easily comparable to the likes of metro station and their hits such as “shake it” which was very popular during last summer and could be heard all over the place.

Owl City seems to have appeared as a phenomenon and look likely to be around for a while. They appear not to be one hit wonders as their albums contain other songs that could also be possible hits such as “Vanilla Twilight” which was my favourite and also “Cave In” all catchy and dynamic enough to be great hits.

So in all, the dreamy lyrics and mellow voice help create an appealing album with smooth, even tempo so idyllic and easy to listen to, with catchy lyrics. I give the album “Ocean Eyes” a 4 and a half stars the only negative comment is that some of the songs are a little too similar.
